Vol 2 Issue 7
What’s up this week? Schoolyard Habitat The first of MANY grants for the Schoolyard Habitats has been applied for! The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Schoolyard Habitat Grant was applied for on behalf of Saint Vincent de Paul School, and Garfield/Logan Park. A Schoolyard Habitat serves as an outdoor classroom. There are three basic requirements for a schoolyard habitat: water source, shelter/housing for animal life (such as birdhouses) and native plants. It can enhance the learning experience by taking traditional classroom teachings (math, science, arts, language…) outside. Visit us to see project plans, results of teacher wish lists and proposed plans for Saint Vincent de Paul and Garfield School. Visit often, as the pages will reflect the progress of the project in pictures, text and drawings. This project needs you! This winter season, we will be busy writing grants and securing in kind donations. We hope to break ground at both locations on early March. Do you have a skill or talent that you can lend to this project? Have a willing heart but not sure where or how you can help? Contact us! We would love to chat with you about how you might contribute! Healthy Lifestyles II

What fun would it be if everything went exactly as planned? When was the last time you said ‘I don’t know the answer’ or ‘I don’t know how?’ How did you feel? When we were kids, we said it all the time. No one expected us to know all the answers and as a child, we assumed someone else did. As adults, saying those statements often gives way to feelings of powerlessness, vulnerability and weakness. Fearful of or uncomfortable with these emotions, we try to control events and people and we actually generate more stress for ourselves. Consider that when we stop trying to adhere to a rigid plan we’ve made for our lives, we open ourselves to more options and greater possibilities than we could ever imagine on our own. Faith can do that for us. We cannot control events that happen in our lives. We can only manage how we prepare for and our response to situations. As an adult, admit freely you don’t have all the answers just as you did when you were a kid. Have faith as you did as a child that someone else does have the answers. Forget control and remember that faith is what makes anything possible. Gifts in the Moment is on Facebook! Do a search for gitm and join the group! Denise and Kim |
