Vol 2 Issue 6

What’s up this week?

Gifts in the Moment presented at the Illinois Science Teachers Association meeting, entitled: "Backing the Real Basics" discussing research and school programming options focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual and mental health benefits of childhood outdoor activity in everyday life.  Take a look at a couple videos we did for this presentation.  They were used to highlight the need for meaningful time spent in Nature and the need for connectedness to Nature in our everyday lives that is slipping away.

Schoolyard Habitat
Saint Vincent de Paul School established an Environmental Club, svdp Project Green Leaf.  Already, they have established a recycling program and got to work building Peterson Bluebird Houses, which will find their way home in the Saint Vincent Habitat, as well as Garfield School Habitat.  A BIG THANKS! to Metamora Township High School Environmental Club for visiting Saint Vincent's and lending a hand!

A Schoolyard Habitat serves as an outdoor classroom. There are three basic requirements for a schoolyard habitat: water source, shelter/housing for animal life (such as birdhouses) and native plants. It can enhance the learning experience by taking traditional classroom teachings (math, science, arts, language…) outside.

Visit us to see project plans, results of teacher wish lists and proposed plans for Saint Vincent de Paul and Garfield School. Visit often, as the pages will reflect the progress of the project in pictures, text and drawings. Our goal is to get the habitats up and running, certified by the National Wildlife Federation, implement later phases over coming years and add additional schools.

A gitm for you

Thankfulness.  We would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your support of Gifts in the Moment.  The road we are on has been bumpy at times, foggy at others and always challenging.  Our mission, to teach the importance of using God’s gifts in our everyday lives, is one that we are constantly learning as well-through the people we have met.  We wish you a blessed Thanksgiving.
