The Supermarket Park was born in 2012. Spurred by a Bosch Tool employee who heard of our work on a radio broadcast on WCBU, Bosch Tool reached out with the vision for a corporate sponsored and employee maintained community garden. We searched for a location and found a wonderful partnership with His Helping Hands – a local not for profit. Through their generosity, the Supermarket Park has a home at the corner of Western Avenue and Marquette Street in the South Village of Peoria.
The Supermarket Park is home to over 40 raised square foot garden beds. These beds grow produce such as strawberries, tomatoes, lettuce, radish, collards, peppers, cucumber and plants such as black-eyed susans, zinnias and sunflowers. The Park has no fencing and is open to the public to harvest what they need. We just ask that a few weeds be pulled along the way.
Bosch Tool has since left the Peoria area. We continue the vision for a freely accessible community garden and rely on individuals, families and groups of volunteers to help maintain the garden beds. We invite you to be a part of a truly unique project designed to be a part of and give back to the community it serves.
